STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: HORSEHEADS CRUISES TO 50-23 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2024-02-12)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Horseheads raced out to a 14-point first-quarter lead, and cruised to a 50-23 win here Friday night in a battle of STAC junior varsity girls basketball division winners.
The Wolverines, now 13-5, won the Central Division title, while Horseheads captured the West Division title. The two will play at Horseheads Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals of the STAC Championships.
On Friday, Horseheads led 18-4 after the first eight minutes, then used a 14-4 second-quarter run to take a 32-8 lead into the halftime locker room.
Lecksie Douglas scored six points, and Kaitlyn Sutton added four points as Waverly outscored Horseheads, 12-9, in the third quarter to close the gap to 41-20 entering the fourth quarter, but the Blue Raiders closed out the game with a 9-3 run.
Douglas led Waverly with eight points, while Sutton scored seven, and Taylin Gonzalez chipped in with four.
