SECTION IV BASKETBALL: LANSING'S BIG FOURTH QUARTER SINKS TIOGA IN CLASS B QUARTERFINALS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-02-24)

LANSING - State-ranked Lansing, the second seed, poured in 29 points in the fourth quarter, and rallied for a 71-58 win over 10th-seeded Tioga here Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class B boys basketball playoffs.

"The kids played their hearts out tonight," said Tioga coach Dave Sickler.

"We had a couple of poor possessions early in the fourth quarter and (Lansing) made some 3s. which were daggers in our momentum.

"But, I couldn’t be more proud of our overall team effort tonight," added Sickler.

Senior Evan Sickler pumped in 12 points in the first quarter, including a 3-pointer, but he was the only Tiger to find the scoring column, and Lansing, ranked 8th in Class B, led 14-12 after the first eight minutes.

Sickler and junior Shea Bailey each scored four points in the second quarter, and senior Gavin Fisher canned a 3-pointer as the Tigers used a 15-11 scoring advantage in the stanza to take a 27-25 lead into the halftime intermission.

Sickler added 10 more points, including a 3-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play, while Bailey drained a 3-pointer, and senior Karson Sindoni added a conventional three-point play, but the Bobcats played the Tigers even. Tioga led 44-42 heading into the final eight minutes.

Ryan Pettograsso knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, and Jordan Sidle added nine points to fuel a 29-14 blitz in the final eight minutes.

Sickler led Tioga with 33 points, including four 3-pointers, while Bailey scored nine points, Sindoni added five points, and seniors Valentino Rossi, and Ethan Landmesser chipped in with four points apiece.

Pettograsso led Tioga with 19 points, while Alex Girich scored 18 points, Sidle added 15, and Aiden Hathorn chipped in with 11 points.

Tioga wraps up the season at 13-8.
