Wendi Hammond, a grad student on the University of Albany softball team, fired a no-hitter, but the Great Danes dropped a 1-0 decision to Wisconsin here Friday afternoon at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County Spring Invite.
Hammond allowed an unearned run in seven innings, striking out three, walking one, and hitting one batter. She threw just 60 pitches.
The Badgers took advantage of Hammond’s only walk, scoring on an errant throw in the top of the fifth inning to pull out the win.
On the season, Hammond is 6-5 with a 2.71 ERA. She has allowed 58 hits in 59 1/3 innings, while striking out 32 and walking 28, but 14 of those walks were in her first three starts (16 1/3 innings).
Albany plays its first home games of the season Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader against Army.
