Wendi Hammond, a grad student on the University of Albany softball team, tossed her third shutout of the season Wednesday in a 3-0 win over UMass.
Hammond allowed four hits in seven innings, while striking out six and walking one to improve to 8-5 on the season.
Hammond has pitched shutouts in two of her last three starts, sandwiched around a no-hitter she lost 1-0 after allowing an unearned run. She has not allowed an earned run in 23 1/3 innings.
Hammond has lowered her ERA 3.64 to 2.43 over her last four appearances. She has 38 strikeouts and 26 walks in 66 1/3 innings, while allowing 62 hits.
Albany, now 11-6, returns to action Saturday in a doubleheader at Maine.
