STAC BASEBALL: AULT, PIPHER COMBINE ON NO-HITTER IN WAVERLY'S 8-0 WIN OVER SETON CATHOLIC (2024-04-01)

BINGHAMTON - Sophomore Ronin Ault and 8th-grader Jack Pipher combined on a no-hitter, and freshman Matthias Welles, and senior Ethan Perry provided the offense in Waverly’s 8-0 win over Seton Catholic here Monday morning in STAC Central Division baseball action.

"Ronin (Ault) and Jack (Pipher) were dominant on the mound," said Waverly coach Kyle McDuffee.

"We moved runners well, and (Matthias) Welles and (Ethan) Perry had great games at the plate," he added. "It was just all-around good baseball."

Ault fanned five and walked two in five hitless innings, while Jack Pipher struck out one, and walked one.

Senior Jay Pipher led off the game with a groundball single up the middle, moved to second on a groundout off the bat of Perry, and scored on a two-our RBI double to left field by Welles to give the Wolverines a quick 1-0 lead.

Jay Pipher led off the third inning with a line-drive single to left field, and scored moments later when Perry drove a 2-0 pitch over the center field fence to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.

Waverly added two runs in the top of the fourth inning when Ben Shaw led off the frame with a double, and ended up on third with two outs after Jay Pipher worked a walk, and senior Joey Tomasso was hit by a pitch. Welles delivered both runs to make it 5-0 with a line-drive double to left field.

With one out in the sixth inning, Jay Pipher walked, and Perry followed with a hard-hit ground ball single into left field.

With two outs, Welles smacked a three-run home run over the left field fence to up the Waverly advantage to 8-0.

Welles had three hits, including a home run and a double, one run scored, and five RBI, and Perry homered and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs to pace Waverly’s nine-hit attack.

Jay Pipher single twice and scored four runs in the win, and Ben Shaw doubled and singled, and scored one run.

Waverly, now 2-0, hosts Seton Catholic Wednesday afternoon.
