Valley Sports Report
NEWFIELD - Sophomore Logan Bellis, and junior Luke Powell combined on a 2-hitter, and junior Garrett Godfrey provided the offensive punch to lead Tioga to a 7-1 win over Newfield Monday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division baseball action.

Bellis fanned nine and walked two in four innings of two-hit scoreless ball to earn the win. Powell struck out seven and walked three, allowing one earned runs, but no hits in three innings to earn the save.

Bellis led off the game with a single, stole second, and moved to third on an error, but was cut down at the plate on a short fly ball.

Senior Cam Rought followed with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Godfrey to make it 1-0.

The Tigers extended their lead in the top of the third inning.

Powell led off with a walk, Bellis reached base on an error, and junior Shea Bailey was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Godfrey cleared the bases with a three-run double to left field to make it 4-0.

Tioga pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning when Rought led off with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball, to third on a ground out, and scored on another passed ball.

Newfield answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on three walks, and a passed ball.

Freshman Cooper Dember and Shea Bailey each walked in the sixth inning, then pulled off a double steal to set the stage for Rought, who delivered both runners with a hard groundball single up the middle to make it 7-1.

Powell fanned the last five Newfield batters he faced to end the game.

Godfrey doubled and singled, and had four RBI, while Rought singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Bellis singled twice and scored one run to account for all six of Tioga’s hits. Bailey scored two runs in the win, while Dember and Powell each crossed the plate once.

Tioga, now 2-0, returns to action Tuesday at Harpursville.
