Zack Garrity, a freshman on the Mansfield University baseball team, collected his first collegiate hit Sunday, and
Nic Ficarro, a junior and also a Sayre grad, has pitched three scoreless outings in his last four appearances.
Garrity, who reached base in his first four plate appearances for the Mounties, belted a pinch-hit double in his first official at-bat Sunday in a 19-3 loss to West Chester. He also walked, and scored one run.
In his first two plate appearances earlier in the season, Garrity worked walks on both occasions.
In his first collegiate start Tuesday, Garrity was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Garrity is hitting .333 (1-for-3) with two runs scored, and four base on balls for an on-base percentage of .714.
Also on Tuesday, Ficarro allowed one hit and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Ficarro also had a 1-2-3 inning Saturday in a 5-3 loss to West Chester.
Ficarro, who did not see the mound in his first two years at Mansfield, has five appearances this season, and has not allowed an earned run in four of them. His ERA is 3.00, and he has three walks and three strikeouts in 6 innings pitched.
Mansfield, now 8-23, returns to action Saturday in a doubleheader at Emory & Henry College in the start of a three-game series.
