NTL TRACK & FIELD: QUIROS A FOUR-TIME WINNER AS SAYRE BOYS TOP NEB; SHIKANGA ALSO A QUAD-WINNER IN SAYRE GIRLS' LOSS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-04-13)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — Junior Marco Quiros was a quad-winner to lead the Sayre boys to a 102-28 win over Northeast Bradford, and junior Rose Shikanga was also a four-time winner, but the Lady Redskins came up short in a 49-42 decision in NTL Small School Division track & field action on a windy and rainy Saturday afternoon at the Lockhart Street Bowl.
BOYS
Sayre 102, NEB 28Joining Quiros as multiple-time winners were triple-winner senior Hunter Kimball, and double-winners junior Ryan Ressler, sophomore Carter Bleiler, and freshmen Glenn VanBenthuysen, and Declan Barry.
Quiros won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.74 seconds, and junior Nick Pellicano was second in 12.14 seconds.
Quiros led a sweep in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 24.34 seconds, with Pellicano second in 25.54 seconds, and junior Donte Rubeck third in 27.44 seconds.
Quiros also led a sweep in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.54, with freshman Dominick Musick second in 1:07.84, and Rubeck third in 1:09.44.
Quiros teamed with Pellicano, Rubeck and junior Ryan Ressler to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 50.14 seconds.
Kimball won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:42.7, and VanBenthuysen was second in 5:45.3. Kimball also won the 3,200-meter run in a a time of 13:54.7, and VanBenthuysen was second in 14:48.7.
Kimball and VanBenthuysen teamed with Musick, and sophomore Caleb Grover to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 12:53.7.
VanBenthuysen won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:45.00, while Musick was second in 2:45.90, and Kimball was third in 2:48.8.
Barry won the 110-meter hurdles in 22.94 seconds. He also won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.44 seconds.
Sophomore Carter Bleiler won the long jump with a leap of 13-feet, 10-inches. He also won the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches.
Ressler won the triple jump with a mark of 33-feet, 11-inches.
Senior David Huang won the discus with a toss of 87-feet, 8-inches
Pellicano placed second in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, and Ressler was third at 4-feet, 10-inches.
Bleiler finished second in the javelin with a throw of 95-feet, 11-inches, and freshman Hudson Malanoski was third at 83-feet, 6-inches.
Huang finished second in the shot put at 37-feet, 3-inches, and Malanoski was third at 36-feet, 1-inch.
GIRLS
NEB 49, Sayre 42Senior Liz Shaw was a double-winner, and the only other Sayre girl to win an event Saturday.
Shikanga won the 200-meter dash in a time of 30.24 seconds, and Shaw was second in 33.34 seconds.
Shikanga won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.84 seconds. She also won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 1:05.14.
Shikanga won a field event as well, taking first in the high jump with a mark of 4-feet.
Shaw won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.94 seconds.
Shaw also won the triple jump with a mark of 27-feet 3-inches, and freshman Neveah Rounsville was second at 21-feet, 11-inch. Shaw finished second in the long jump at 11-feet, 6-inches.
Rounsville was second in the javelin with a throw of 31-feet, 8-inches.
Sayre returns to action Tuesday at Wellsboro.
