IAC BASEBALL: BAILEY, BOMBARD COMBINE ON 1-HITTER IN TIOGA'S 13-2 ROMP OVER GROTON (16 PHOTOS) (2024-04-15)

GROTON — Junior Shea Bailey and freshman Jackson Bombard combined on a one-hitter, and senior Cam Rought, and junior Garrett Godfrey powered the offense in Tioga’s 13-2 win over Groton here Monday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division baseball action.

Bailey allowed one hit, while striking out seven, and walking one in three innings, while Bombard allowed a pair of unearned runs, while striking out seven and walking three in four innings to earn the win.

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a one-out two-run single by Godfrey.

Rought led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run to make it 3-0. After Tioga scored a run on a wild pitch, junior Jackson Clark stoked an RBI single to give Tioga a 5-0 lead.

A double by Bailey, and an RBI single by Rought made it 6-0 in the fourth inning. Rought came around to score on an RBI single by Godfrey to extend the lead to 7-0.

Groton turned a bit batsman, two base on balls, and an error into two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap to 7-2, but Tioga answered with three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 10-2 lead.

Zac Mumbulo’s two-run double, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bombard in the top of the seventh provided Tioga’s final three runs.

Godfrey was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and five RBI, and Rought homered and singled, scored five runs, and had two RBI to pace Tioga’s 12-hit attack, while Mumbulo had three hits, including a pair of doubles, one run scored, and three RBI, and Bailey tripled and doubled, and scored two runs.

Clark singled and drove in one run in the win, while Bellis scored two runs, and stole three bases, and Bombard scored one run, and knocked in one run.

Tioga, now 4-0, hosts Groton Wednesday.
