NTL BASEBALL: NP-MANSFIELD RALLIES TO EDGE SAYRE, 3-2, IN 8 INNINGS (2024-04-16)

Valley Sports Report
MANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, then walked off with a 3-2 eight-inning win over Sayre here Tuesday afternoon in NTL baseball action.

“Yes, it was a tough loss, but a good showing that these boys can play the game better than we've shown in past games,” said Sayre coach Todd Green.

“Our bats were decent tonight. We just left way too many stranded on base,” noted Green. “We need to get better as a team, with turning it over to get runs across the plate at key moments.

“Our fielding was decent tonight, normal hiccups but not the implosion we've had in past games,” he added.

Senior Will Crossett pitched a complete game in the loss for the Redskins, allowing three runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings, while striking out 11 and walking two.

“Will Crossett was top-notch tonight on the mound,” said Green. “I couldn't have asked for anything more out of Will.

“He left it on the field,” noted Green. “I am extremely proud of him and his performance.”

After leaving five runners on base in the firs two innings, the Redskins took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a one-out double by sophomore Karter Green, and a two-out RBI double by senior Tanner Green.

Sayre added another run in the fourth inning. With two outs, junior Nick Pellicano walked, and Crossett singled to put runners on first and second. Senior Kaden Bennett’s RBI single made it 2-0.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Karson Dominick and Cody Hermanson.

The Redskins put two runners on base in the seventh, but left them stranded.

After singles by Cooper Shaw, and Dominick, Hermanson stroked the game-winning single up the middle.

Tanner Green doubled and singled, and drove in one run, and Karter Green doubled and singled, and scored one run to pace Sayre’s nine-hit attack, while Pellicano singled and scored one run, and Bennett singled and drove in one run.

Crossett, sophomore Logan Zingeser, and senior Garrett Rought each added a single for the Redskins.

Sayre, now 2-3, returns to action Friday at Canton.
