NTL BASEBALL: NEB KNOCKS OFF ATHENS, 5-1 (16 PHOTOS) (2024-04-16)

Valley Sports Report
ATHENS — A pair of Northeast Bradford pitchers limited Athens to four hits in a 5-1 win here Tuesday afternoon in NTL baseball action.

The Panthers scored two runs in the second inning, and another in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Freshman Connor Davidson led off the first inning with a single, and sophomore Cooper Robinson stroked a two-out single in the third inning, but neither reached second base.

In the bottom of the fourth, junior Troy Rosenbloom was hit by a pitch with one out, and ended up on third base after an errant pick-off throw sailed into foul territory down the right-field line. Rosenbloom came into score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Nicholas Jacob to close the gap to 3-1.

The Panthers answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out, two-run single by Kohen Hugo to make it 5-1.

Davidson led off the sixth inning with a single, and sophomore Nick Grazul reached on an error to put runners on first and second with no outs, but neither runner reached third base.

Freshman Brendan Cooke was hit by a pitch with one out in the home half of the seventh, and freshman Kam Wheeler followed with a single, but again neither reached third base.

Davidson singled twice, and Wheeler and Robinson each singled to account for the Wildcats’ four hits, while Jacob drove in a run, and Rosenbloom scored one run.

Senior Connor Mosher was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs — two earned — on fur hits, while striking out three and walking one in four innings.

Jacob finished the game with three innings one-hit ball, with three strikeouts and two walks.

Caleb Wiggins earned the win for NEB, allowing an unearned run on three hits, while striking out eight and walking one in five innings. Hugo fanned three in two innings of one-hit relief.

Athens, now 3-4, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Towanda.
