NTL GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: HENDERSON, PERNASELLI LEAD ATHENS TO BIG WINS OVER NP-M, TOWANDA (24 PHOTOS) (2024-04-29)

TOWANDA — Seniors Emily Henderson and Emma Pernaselli were triple-winners to lead Athens to wins over North Penn-Mansfield and Towanda here Monday in NTL Large School Division girls track & field action.

Senior Mya Thompson, junior Sara Bronson, and sophomore Lizzie Gorsline were each double-winners for the Lady Wildcats, who tallied 102 points in the win. North Penn-Mansfield had 44.5 points, and Towanda had 41.5.

"The girls had another good night," said Athens coach Mike Bronson. "We cut back on everyone due to the weather … we’re not used to temperatures like we had, so we didn’t want to over do.

"We still had a lot of great performances, though," he noted.

"We’ll start resting a little more and sharpening up as we are starting to focus on the NTL meet and Districts," added Bronson.

Henderson won the 100-meter hurdles in 18.22 seconds, and Gorsline was second in 18.33 seconds.

Henderson also won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 53.62 seconds, while junior Addy Wheeler was third in 55.83 seconds, and freshman Hannah Parrish was fourth in 56.97 seconds.

Henderson, teamed with senior Abbie Panek, and juniors Emma Renninger, and Gretchen Schmieg teamed to win the 400-meter dash in 54.67 seconds.

Pernaselli won the discus with a toss of 104-feet, while sophomore Emma Cole was second at 75-feet, 6-inches, and senior Emily Marshall was fourth at 73-feet, 2-inches.

Pernaselli won the shot put with a heave of 33-feet, 10 1/2-inches. She also won the javelin with a throw of 95-feet, 2-inches.

Thompson won the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 2-inches, while Abbie Panek was second at 13-feet, 9 3/4-inches, and freshman Kaitlyn Leonard was fourth at 13-feet, 8-inches.

Thompson also won the triple jump with a mark of 29-feet, 2 1/3-inches

Bronson won the 800-meter dash in 2:22.77, and senior Thea Bentley was fourth in 2:34.45.

Bronson and Bentley teamed with Wheeler, and Gorsline to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:29.74.

Gorsline won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:04.9, and senior Mya Thompson was second in 1:06.5.

Sophomore Abby Burgess won the 100-meter dash in 13.3 seconds, while Schmieg was third in 13.52 seconds, and Abbie Panek was fourth in 13.98 seconds.

Sophomore Ava Hughes won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:57.95.

Sophomore Elizabeth Denlinger won the high jump at 4-feet, 10-inches, and sophomore Evelyn Panek was second at 4-feet, 6-inches. Denlinger finished second in the pole vault at 7-feet, 6-inches, and Renninger was fourth at 7-feet.

Schmieg finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 29.63 seconds.

Athens returns to action Friday at the Blue Jay Invitational at Central Columbia High School.
