NEWFIELD — Junior Erin Luther tossed a 1-hitter to lead Tioga to a 10-1 five-inning win over Newfield here Saturday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division softball action.

Luther allowed one earned run, while striking out 10 and walking three in a complete-game, five-inning effort.

Sophomore RaeAnne Feeko was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI, but she had her string of 13 consecutive at-bats with a hit snapped in the third inning after drawing a walk in the first inning.

After Luther worked around a lead-off walk in the top of the first, Tioga took advantage of two Newfield errors to plate four runs in the home half of the first inning in a rally highlighted by an RBI triple by senior Emily Bidwell.

The Tigers added two runs in the second inning to up its lead to 6-0. Sophomore Emily Shiner’s RBI single capped the rally.

Feeko’s RBI single in the third inning gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead, but Newfield answered with a run —and its only hit — in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 7-1.

Seniors Megan Vance and Elizabeth Shaffer both contributed RBI singles in Tioga’s three-run fourth inning that pushed the lead to 10-1.

Shaffer singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Tioga’s seven-hit attack, while Bidwell tripled, scored two runs, and Shiner singled, scored one run, and had one RBI.

Vance singled and had one RBI in the win, while freshman Vanessa Tunnicliff singled, and scored one run, Luther scored two runs, and juniors McKenzie Williams and Christina Earley each crossed the plate once.

Tioga, now 12-2,  returns to action Monday at Southern Cayuga.
