Wendi Hammond, a grad student at the University of Albany, pitched around base-runners all game, but led the Great Danes to a 6-3 win over Binghamton in the winner’s bracket finals of the America East Championships.
Hammond earned the win, allowing three runs on eight hits, while walking five, hitting a batter, and striking out. She improves to 23-8 on the season.
The Bears stranded 10 runners on the base in the loss.
On the season, Hammond is 23-8 with a 1.99 ERA. She 123 strikeouts and 55 walks in 172 1/3 innings, while allowing 146 hits.
The top-seeded Danes now await the winner of the consolation bracket in the championship game Saturday at noon.
