NTL TRACK & FIELD: QUIROS WINS THREE EVENTS, SHIKANGA WINS ONE TO PACE SAYRE AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-05-10)

ATHENS — Sayre junior Marco Quiros was a triple-winner, and junior Rose Shikanga also earned a win here Friday at the NTL Track & Field Championships at Alumni Stadium..

Quiros swept the individual sprint events, adding two season-bests to his resume despite the less than ideal sprinting weather.

He eked out a win in the 100 in 11.23 seconds, just ahead of Athens’ Kelley Reid (11.3). Quiros then pulled away to win the 200 in 22.76 seconds, and the 400 in 50.38 seconds..

Senior David Huang also had a good day, taking third in the shot put at 42-feet, 4 3/4-inches, while freshman Hudson Malanoski was 11th in 36-feet, 1/4-inch.

Sophomore Carter Bleiler finished eighth in the pole vault at 9-feet.

The boys’ relays also scored points, with the 4x800 taking seventh in 9:55.14 and the 4x400 finishing eighth in 4:28.83.

Freshman Declan Barry finished 10th in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.93 seconds, and junior Nick Pellicano finished 11th in the 100-yard dash in 12.09 seconds.

On the girls’ side, Shikanga defended her top seed in the 100 hurdles, winning the event in 16.79 seconds.

Senior Aubri Husted also got on the podium, taking eighth in the pole vault in 7-feet.

The boys finished ninth overall with 40 points, and the girls were 10th with 11 points.
