NTL BOYS TRACK & FIELD: COMSTOCK, REID, WANCK LEAD ATHENS TO THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-05-10)

Paced by a pair of first-place finishes, Athens placed third in the team standings here at the NTL Boys Track & Field Championships on a rainy Friday.

The Wildcats finished with 102 points, behind Troy (130) and Wellsboro (113) to bring home the bronze.

Sophomore Brenden Comstock won the discus with a mark of 133-feet, 9-inches, and senior Josh Nittinger was ninth at 102-feet, 10-inches. Comstock finished fourth in the shot put at 40-feet, 8-inches, and senior Josh Nittinger was seventh at 38-feet, 6 1/2-inches.

The 4x100 relay team of senior Kelley Reid, and juniors Lucius Mickley, Peter Jones, and Jase Babcock placed first in 45.12 seconds.

Freshman Graham Wanck won a pair of silver medals in the 1,600 in 4:31.07 and the 3,200 in 10:10.53.

Reid also took home two second-place finishes. He was runner-up in the 100 in 11.3 seconds. He also placed second in the 200 in 22.92 seconds, and Jones was sixth in 24.5 seconds.

Babcock placed second in the high jump at 5-feet, 10-inches, and sophomore James Friend was 11th at 5-feet, 2-inches. Babcock was also fourth in the long jump at 20-feet, 4-inches.

The 4x400 relay of sophomores Brian Tang, Alex Thompson, Eli Vogell, and Friend finished fourth in a time of 3:44.78, and the 4x800 relay of Wanck, senior Sean Clare, and freshmen Lucas Persun, and Matt Rossettie also place fourth in a time of 9:17.38.

Tang finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 45.49.

Friend placed fifth in the triple jump at 39-feet, 2 1/4-inches, while Babcock was seventh at 38-feet, 5-inches, and Jones was 11th at 36-feet 3 3/4-inches.

Junior Caleb Nason finished sixth in the javelin at 124-feet, 8-inches, and Jones was sixth in the 200 in 24.50 seconds.

Thompson placed seventh in the 400 in 54.65, and Friend was 10th in 57.82 seconds.

Also getting on the podium with eighth-place finishes were Clare in the 800 in 2:13.77, and sophomore Chase Ingram in the 110 hurdles in 20.62 seconds.

Ingram also finished ninth in the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches, and senior Dash Bishop was 12th at 8-feet.

Persun finished ninth in the 3,200 in 10:58.7, and Mickley finished 12th in the 100 in a time of 12.15 seconds.
