ON TAP TODAY: WAVERLY FLAG FOOTBALL, TIOGA AND ATHENS BASEBALL HEADLINE SATURDAY'S ACTION (2024-05-11)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Waverly travels to Maine-Endwell for a key Section IV flag football contest, while Tioga baseball plays for the IAC Small School title, and Athens baseball needs a win at Thomas A. Edison to keep its playoff hopes alive in the three marquee events on Saturday’s schedule.

FLAG FOOTBALL
Waverly (8-1-2) at Maine-Endwell (10-1-1), 7 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 36-20 win over Chenango Forks Wednesday, while the Spartans topped Union-Endicott, 21-6.

The winner of the game will be the 2-seed in the upcoming Section IV playoffs, and will host a playoff game Wednesday night.

Both teams enter the contest with just one loss — both to unbeaten Owego. M-E has won seven or eight in a row, while Waverly has won two in a row.

Waverly averages nearly 33 points per game, while Maine-Endwell had not given up more than 13 points in a game aside from the loss to Owego.

Union Springs beat Tioga, 12-2, during the regular season.

Athens (8-10) at Edison, 11 a.m.: The Wildcats are coming off an 11-0 win over Susquehanna Valley Thursday, while Edison is coming off a 29-2 win over Dryden Tuesday.
