THE WEEK AHEAD: TRACK KICKS INTO POSTSEASON MODE; BASEBALL, SOFTBALL REGULAR SEASONS DRAW TO A CLOSE (2024-05-12)

THE VALLEY - There are a host of baseball and softball games on the schedule as the regular season wraps up Thursday, while track & field is in postseason mode on both sides of the border.

Section IV postseason baseball and softball brackets will be released Monday night, and there’s a possibility Waverly or Tioga teams could be in action Thursday or Friday. District 4 baseball brackets will be announced Wednesday, and opening-round games could be be played Friday or Saturday.

There are 21 events currently on the docket this week, including six on Monday and Wednesday.

The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

MONDAY (6)
• Athens baseball hosts Thomas A. Edison.

• Athens softball hosts Tioga in a non-league contest.

• Sayre softball hosts NEB in the first of five games it will play this week.

TUESDAY (4)
• Athens baseball and softball wraps up the regular season with home games against Canton.

WEDNESDAY (6)
• Waverly is in action at the STAC Track & Field Championships at Johnson City High School.

• Tioga is in action at Day 1 of the IAC Track & Field Championships at Trumansburg.

• Waverly takes on Maine-Endwell in the opening round of the Section IV flag football playoffs.

• Waverly baseball hosts Trumansburg in its season-finale.

• Sayre softball hosts Troy.

THURSDAY (4)
• Athens and Sayre are in action at Day 1 of the District 4 Track & Field Championships at Williamsport High School.

• Tioga is in action at Day 2 of the IAC Track & Field Championships at Trumansburg.

• Sayre softball wraps up the season with a doubleheader at Wellsboro.

FRIDAY (0)
• There are no games on the schedule.

SATURDAY (1)
• Athens and Sayre are in action at Day 2 of the District 4 Track & Field Championships at Williamsport High School.
