WAVERLY - Waverly ran its win streak to four with a win over Owego, but dropped its regular-season finale to Horseheads to finish the season with an 8-8 record.

Waverly 12, Owego 0

Waverly scored six runs in the home half of the first inning en route to its fourth straight victory — a 12-0 five-inning win over Owego, behind a two-hitter from Axel Murray.

Axel Murray doubled twice, scored once, and had three RBI, and Sam Cheresnowsky singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run to pace Waverly’s eight-hit attack, while Daltton Davis doubled and singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, and Ahren McCarthy singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.

Aiden Doherty and Chase Wheeler each scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Bryce LaForest and Derek Johnson, and Jarren drove in one run.

Murray fanned five and walked three in five scoreless innings to earn the win.

Horseheads 11, Waverly 2

Horseheads scored seven runs in its last two at-bats to blow open a close game in an 11-2 win over Waverly.

The Wolverines opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders answered with two runs in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2, then scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Horseheads added two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 6-2, then blew the game wide-open with five runs in the seventh inning.

Bryce LaForest, and Daltton Davis each singled to account for Waverly’s two hits, while Axel Murray and Sam Cheresnowsky each scored a run.

Davis was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs — two earned - on five hits, while striking out eight and walking two in 4 2/3 innings of work.
