Lucas Horton, a freshman on the St. John Fisher baseball team, is unscored upon in his last three outings, including a 2 1/3-inning relief stint in the Empire 8 championship game — a 13-4 win over Utica University — here Saturday afternoon.
With the win, St. John Fisher punches its ticket into the Division III National Championships for the fourth consecutive season. The brackets will be revealed Monday night.
On Saturday, Horton entered the game to start the top of the sixth with the Cardinals leading 9-4. He allowed one hit, while striking out one and walking one in 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.
On May 5, Horton, who had surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus on Oct. 10, made his first collegiate start, allowing two hits, while striking out five in two scoreless innings.
On April 27, Horton threw three innings of perfect relief with four strikeouts to earn his first collegiate win.
In his last three appearances, Horton has allowed three hits in 7 1/3 scoreless innings. He has 10 strikeouts and one walk.
On the season, Horton is 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA. He has allowed eight hits in 10 2/3 innings, while striking out 14 and walking three.
St. John Fisher is 26-17 on the season, but had a 15-3 record in Empire 8 conference play, and was 3-0 in the Empire 8 tournament.
