NTL BASEBALL: TROY STARTS FAST IN 11-2 WIN OVER SAYRE (19 PHOTOS) (2024-05-13)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE - Troy opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the second inning, and cruised to an 11-2 win over Sayre here Monday afternoon in NTL baseball action.

"Tonight was not a bad game for us," said Sayre coach Todd Green. "Troy came to play, and we just didn't match up.

"Being our last home game of the season, I wish it went differently, but that is every coaches wishlist on a loss.

"Tonight, we hit the ball OK, but not at opportune moments like the Trojans did," noted Green.

"Regardless, I'm proud of this group of young men, most of whom haven't played since Little League," added Green. "But when things got tough this season, they never quit."

With the win, the Trojans clinch the Large School Division title.

The Trojans led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Redskins got on the board with sophomore Karter Green, who reached on a lead-off single, moved to second on a single by Tanner Green, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on a dropped third strike.

Troy scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 8-1, and Sayre answered in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Will Crossett to score junior Nick Pellicano, who reached base on a walk, and moved to third on a double by freshman Shaine Strickland.

The Trojans finished off the scoring with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Strickland had three hits, including a double, to pace Sayre’s seven-hit attack, while Karter Green, and Pellicano each singled and scored one run, and seniors Kaden Bennett, and Tanner Green each added a single.

Crossett, and senior John Apgar each had one RBI for the Redskins.

Sayre, now 5-11, returns to action Tuesday at Towanda.
