NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA STARTS FAST IN 12-1 WIN OVER SAYRE (2024-05-14)

WYSOX — Towanda jumped out to a quick lead, and cruised to a 12-1 five-inning win over Sayre here Tuesday afternoon in NTL softball action.

The Black Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and led 5-0 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, McGaughey stroked a two-out single, and scored on an RBI triple by sophomore Rylee Lantz to close the gap to 5-1.

Towanda answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 7-1.

The Knights scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule.

Lantz tripled and had one RBI, and McGaughey singled and scored one run to account for Sayre’s two hits.

Aleah Johnson tripled and doubled, scored two runs, and had four RBI, while Paige Perry doubled twice and scored two runs, Brynsen Vargason doubled and singled, scored one run, and had one RBI, and Shaylee Greenland singled and collected three RBI to pace Towanda’s 10-hit attack.

Greenland earned the win, allowed one run on two hits, while striking out eight and walking none in 4 2/3 innings.

Sayre, now 3-13, hosts Troy Wednesday in its final home game of the season.
