Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY - Mother Nature threatens to alter the baseball, softball, and golf portion of Wednesday’s schedule, but the marquee events of the day — the Section IV flag football playoffs, and the STAC and IAC Track & Field Championships — should be unaffected.
FLAG FOOTBALLSection IV Playoffs
Division 2 semifinals3-Maine-Endwell (10-1-2) at 2-Waverly (8-1-3), 8 p.m. @ Memorial Stadium: The Wolverines and Spartans battled to a 13-13 tie Saturday at M-E in a game that saw Waverly score with 1:48 to tie the game, M-E stop the point-after to keep it tied, and Waverly intercept a pass at the goal line on the final play of the game to preserve the tie.
Both teams suffered their only losses of the season to unbeaten and top-seeded Owego.
Top-seeded Owego (12-0) takes on Vestal (9-3) at 7 p.m. in the other semi-final game at Tioga’s Haggerty Field.
TRACK & FIELD
Waverly at STAC Championships, 4:30 p.m. @ Johnson City H.S.: Seniors Ralph Johnson and Micah Chandler lead the Waverly boys into action at the program’s first-ever STAC Championships, while the Waverly girls have a number of entries aiming to make the podium.
Tioga at IAC Championships, 4:30 p.m. @ Trumansburg H.S.: Senior Valentino Rossi, junior Andrew Earley, and sophomore Gavin Albrecht lead the Tioga boys’ contingent, while 8th-grader Vida Rossi is looking to reach the podium in multiple events
BASEBALL
Trumansburg (12-3-1) at Waverly (13-5), 5 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 5-3 loss at Maine-Endwell Monday, while the Blue Raiders topped SVEC, 10-1, Thursday.
SOFTBALL
Troy (14-3) at Sayre (3-13), 4:30 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a 12-1 loss at Towanda Tuesday, while the Trojans dropped a 4-3 decision at home to Cowanesque Valley.
