COLLEGE SOFTBALL: WAVERLY GRAD HAMMOND FINISHES STELLAR CAREER AT ALBANY IN PROGRAM'S TOP-10 IN NEARLY EVERY PITCHING CATEGORY (2024-05-19)

Valley Sports Report
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Waverly grad Wendi Hammond, a grad student at the University of Albany, wrapped up a stellar career Saturday at the NCAA Division I Sub-Regionals.

Hammond’s career didn’t end the way she would have liked, walking out of the circle after surrendering a grand slam that snapped a 2-2 tie in Albany’s season-ending 9-3 loss to Penn State, but that takes nothing away from her collegiate accomplishments.

Hammond ends her senior season with a 24-10 record, and a 2.25 ERA. The 24 wins in a single-season are second all-time in program history. Her 64 career wins rank third all-time.

She ended the season with a career-high 130 strikeouts in a career-best 190 innings. She ended her career third all-time with 634 innings pitched, and fourth all-time with 446 strikeouts.

She also finished her career with 94 games started and 122 appearances, which both rank third all-time, and with 60 complete games, which ranks fourth all-time in program history.

Hammond also finished her career with 19 shutouts, and two no-hitters — both ranking in the top-10 in program history. She also recorded five saves.

At the plate, Hammond hit .234 with five home runs, and 22 RBI in 167 at-bats.
