VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: WAVERLY'S JOHNSON, TIOGA'S ROSSI NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUTION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2024-06-02)

THE VALLEY — Waverly senior Ralph Johnson had a record-breaking two days at the Section IV Track & Field State Qualifier, and Tioga 8th-grader Vida Rossi reached the podium. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending June 1.

WAVERLY’S JOHNSON NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Johnson won Section IV titles in the 100- and 200-meter sprints — breaking his own school records in the process, and also ran on Waverly’s second-place 400-meter relay team.

Johnson won the 100-meter dash in a school-record time of 10.65 seconds, and followed that up by running a school record time of 21.52 seconds to win the 200-meter dash.

Johnson teamed with senior Micah Chandler, and juniors Kolsen Keathley, and Xavier Watson to finish second in the 400-meter relay in a season-best tie of 42.52 seconds.

TIOGA ROSSI NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Just an 8th-grader, Rossi reached the State Qualifier in all four of her events, including three individual events.

Rossi won a bronze medal in the long with a leap of 16-feet, 2 3/4 inches.

Rossi finished 10th in the 200-meter dash, and 17th in the 100. She also ran on the 400-meter relay that finished 21st.
