STAC BASEBALL: WAVERLY'S PIPHER, TOMASSO, PERRY EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS; TWO TEAMMATES NAMED TO ALL-DIVISION TEAM (2024-06-04)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — A trio of Waverly seniors — Jay Pipher, Joey Tomasso, and Ethan Perry — earned all-conference honors, and two of their teammates received all-Central Division honors in recent voting by the Southern Tier Athletic Conference coaches.

Pipher was recognized at second base on the Central and East Division portion of the STAC All-Conference team, while Tomasso was the selection at shortstop, and Perry was one of three utility players.

Senior Sean Bubniak was one of three pitchers on the All-Central Division team, and freshman Matthias Welles was selected at first base.

ALL-CONFERENCE (Central-East)
Jay Pipher, senior, Waverly:
Pipher hit .457 (37 hits in 81 ABs) with five doubles, two triples, one home run, 25 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases.

Pipher also walked 15 times, was hit by a pitch once, and had a .546 on-base percentage, to go along with a .605 slugging percentage for a 1.151 OPS.

Joey Tomasso, senior, Waverly: Tomasso hit .453 (34 hits in 75 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, 18 RBI, 25 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases.

He also walked nine times, was hit by pitches four times, and had a .516 on-base percentage, to go along with a .587 slugging percentage for a 1.103 OPS.

Ethan Perry, senior, Waverly:
Perry hit .373 (28 hits in 75 ABs) with seven doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

He also walked 12 times, was hit by pitches three times, and had a .478 on-base percentage, to go along with an .853 slugging percentage for a 1.331 OPS.

Also honored on the all-conference team were: Pitchers: Oneonta’s Bruce Mistler and Nolan Stark; and Owego’s Conlan Taylor. Outfield: Windsor’s Ashton Werner, Susquehanna Valley’s Quintin Bowman, and Chenango Forks’ Finn Stark; First Base: Oneonta’s Brady Carr; Third Base: Owego’s Elijah Lewis; Catcher: Ben Rollison; Utility: Windsor’s Tyson Schmitt and Chenango Forks’ Jack Curtis.

ALL-CENTRAL DIVISION
Sean Bubniak, senior, Waverly:
Bubniak posted a 5-1 record with a 1.58 ERA. He allowed 33 hits in 40 innings, while striking out 28 and walking 18. Opponents hit .214 against him this season.

Matthias Welles, freshman, Waverly: Welles hit .320 (24 hits in 75 ABs) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 25 RBI, 19 runs scored, and five stolen bases.

Welles also walked 10 times, was hit by pitches twice, and had a .409 on-base percentage, to go along with a 507 slugging percentage for a .916 OPS.

Also honored on the all-Central Division team were: Pitchers: Chenango Valley’s Tyler Adams, Seton Catholic’s Brian Dempsey; Outfield: Owego’s Zach Beyer, Chenango Forks’ Zach Zajdel and Anthony Sergi; Second Base: Chenango Fork’s Tate Bender; Third Base: Seton Catholic’s Max Yaeger; Shortstop: Chenango Valley Jimmy Fitzgerald; Catcher: Chenango Forks’ Chris Boyle; Designated Hitters: Owego’s Evan English, Seton Catholic’s Maguire Loshier.
