WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE: WAVERLY RED RALLIES FOR 5-4 WALK-OFF WIN OVER WAVERLY BLUE IN "A" TITLE GAME (2024-06-08)

WAVERLY - Triton Floyd scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap Waverly Red’s come-from-behind, walk-off, 5-4, win over Waverly Blue here Saturday afternoon in the Waverly Little League "A" league championship game.

Blue took an early 2-0 lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning, thanks to a trio of batters hit by pitches, and two base on balls, but Red answered in the home half of the inning on a triple by Brayden Bowman, and a squeeze bunt by Floyd to close the gap to 2-1.

Red took the lead in the bottom of the third when Khidr Pittman scored on a dropped third strike that allowed Levi Couse to reach first base. Couse later scored on an RBI single by Bowman that gave Red a 3-2 lead.

Blue tied the game in the fourth inning on an error, and took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Brody Payne to score Cooper Skovira.

Red tied the game in the home half of the fifth inning on a two-out RBI triple by Cole Rylott that scored Christian Hiralez, who reached base on a two-out walk.

Bowman tripled and singled, and scored one run to lead Red at the plate, while Rylott tripled and drove in one run, Floyd singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Quentin Glose added a single, Couse scored one run, and drove in one run, and Hiralez and Pittman each crossed the plate once.

Bowman started on the mound for Red, allowing two earned runs on two hits in four innings, while striking out 11 and walking three.

Floyd earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief, while striking out five and walking one.

Payne singled and drove in one run, and Wolcott singled and scored one run to pace Blue at the plate, while Liam Barton and Jase Stark each singled, Skovira scored one run, and had one RBI, Ricky Sindoni drove in one run, and Asher Reznicek and Robert Henderson each scored one run.

Skovira allowed five runs — two earned — on five hits, while striking out 14 and walking three in 5 1/3 innings on the mound for Blue.
