THE VALLEY - Tioga sophomore RaeAnne Feeko had an incredible season at the plate, and was unbeaten in the pitcher’s circle to lead the Tigers to the Section IV title game. She is the 2024 Valley Sports Report Softball "Player of the Year."

Athens junior Savannah Persun is the "Pitcher of the Year," while Athens freshman Gretchan Hiley is the "Newcomer of the Year, and Athens senior Ashlyn VanFleet is the "Defensive Player of the Year."

Tioga senior Emily Bidwell is the 2024 "Breakout Player of the Year," and Tioga’s Heather Klossner is the "Coach of the Year."

Feeko, a very good defensive shortstop, hit a whopping .608 on the season, including a stretch in which she recorded base hits in 14 consecutive at-bats.

Feeko had 45 hits in 74 at-bats with 11 doubles, four triples, five homes runs, , 37 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. She also walked 15 times and was hit by four pitches for a .688 on-base percentage, to go along with a 1.068 slugging percentage for a 1.756 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Feeko was 6-0 with a 2.45 ERA. She allowed 14 hits in 34 2/3 innings, while striking out 61 and walking 31. Opponents hit .122 against her.

Persun posted a 7-8 record with a 2.38 ERA. She allowed 80 hits in 79 1/3 innings, while striking out 102 and walking 26. Opponents hit .249.

At the plate, Persun hit .422 (27 hits in 64 ABs) with six doubles, one home run, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored, and one stolen base. She also walked nine times, was hit by pitches twice, and had a .500 on-base percentage, to go along with a .562 slugging percentage for a 1.062 OPS.

A very good all-around player, Gretchan Hiley made an instant impact for the Wildcats this season.

Gretchan Hiley hit .462 (36 hits in 78 ABs) with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI, 30 runs scored, and five stolen bases.

She also walked five times, was hit by one pitch, and had a .494 on-base percentage, to go along with a .679 slugging percentage for a 1.174 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Gretchan Hiley was 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA. She allowed 27 hits in 33 1/3 innings, while striking out 53 and walking 22. Opponents hit .205 against her.

VanFleet had a .993 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 138 defensive chances. She had just two passed ball in 92 innings behind the plate.

Bidwell, who was a role player as a junior, broke out with a big senior season.

Bidwell hit .443 (31 hits in 70 ABs) with seven doubles, three triples, 37 RBI, 21 runs scored, and five stolen bases. She walked eight times and had a .500 on-base percentage, to go along with a .629 slugging percentage for a 1.129 OPS.

Perhaps a year ahead of schedule with a young team, Klossner led Tioga to a 17-4 record, including an IAC South Divisional title, and an overall IAC Small School title.

The Tigers won a pair of postseason games before losing to Union Springs, which it beat in the IAC title game, in the Section IV, Class C Championship game.

RaeAnne Feeko, sophomore, Tioga:

McKenzie Williams, junior, Tioga: Williams hit .507 (38 hits in 75 ABs) with 16 doubles, two home runs, 35 RBI, 33 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.

She walked 10 times and was hit by pitches three times to account for a .580 on-base percentage, to go along with an .800 slugging percentage for a 1.380 OPS.

Williams also had a .981 fielding percentage, with just three errors in 160 total chances. She also threw out 16 would-be base-stealers.

Erin Luther, junior, Tioga:
Luther hit .465 (33 hits in 71 ABs) with 15 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 32 RBI, 27 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

She walked 13 times, and was hit by pitches twice for a .558 on-base percentage, to go along with an .859 slugging percentage to account for a 1.417 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Luther was 11-3 with a 3.53 ERA. She allowed 66 hits in 89 1/3 innings, while striking out 104 and walking 87. Opponents hit .190 against her.

Maddie Hiley, sophomore, Athens:
Maddie Hiley hit .413 (26 hits in 63 ABs) with eight doubles, one triple, 20 RBI, 15 runs scored, and four stolen bases.

She also walked seven times, was hit by pitches four times, and had a .493 on-base percentage, to go along with a .571 slugging percentage for a 1.065 OPS.

Defensively, Maddie Hiley was flawless in 37 defensive chances at multiple positions. She had one passed ball in 11 innings behind the plate, and threw out the only runner who attempted to steal.

Hannah Carpenter, freshman, Waverly: A brilliant defensive catcher, Carpenter hit a team-high .421 (24 hits in 57 ABs) with five doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 10 runs scored, and two stolen bases.

The Second Seven
Ashlyn VanFleet, senior, Athens:
A great defensive catcher (see above), VanFleet, who missed four games, hit .380 (19 hits in 50 ABs) with three doubles, two triples, four home runs, 23 RBI, 19 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

She also walked six times, was hit by four pitches, and had a .368 on-base percentage, to go along with a .760 slugging percentage for a 1.228 OPS.

Jules Pack, junior, Athens: A very good defensive outfielder, Pack hit .419 (26 hits in 62 ABs) with four doubles, one triple, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.

She also walked seven times and had a .471 on-base percentage, to go along with a .516 slugging percentage for a .988 OPS.

Abbie McGaughey, junior, Sayre:
A good defensive first baseman, McGaughey hit .375 (18 hits in 48 ABs) with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored, and six stolen bases.

She walked seven times, was hit by two pitches, and had a .474 on-base percentage, to go along with a .646 slugging percentage, and a 1.120 OPS.

Olivia Thompson, sophomore, Sayre: A speedy center fielder, Thompson hit .375 (18 hits in 48 ABs) with two doubles, one triple, five RBI, 21 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases.

She walked 12 times, was hit by pitches four times, and had a .531 on-base percentage, to go along with a .458 slugging percentage for a .990 OPS.

Madison Cron, sophomore, Waverly: A good defender at the hot corner, Cron his .407 (22 hits in 54 ABs) with five doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

Olivia Robinson, senior, Waverly:
In the pitcher’s circle, Robinson posted a 7-3 record with a 4.07 ERA. She allowed 95 hits in 67 innings, while striking out 46 and walking 20.

At the plate, Robinson hit .333 (15 hits in 45 ABs) with three doubles, 10 RBI, and five runs scored.

Emily Shiner, sophomore, Tioga: Shiner hit .456 (31 hits in 68 ABs) with two doubles, 15 RBI, 23 runs scored, and six stolen bases.

She walked five times and had a .493 on-base percentage, to go along with a .485 slugging percentage for a .978 OPS.

Loralye Anthony, junior, Waverly:
A solid defender at shortstop, Anthony hit .412 (21 hits in 51 ABs) with four doubles, one triple, 10 RBI, and 15 runs scored.

Lily Mezzatesta, sophomore, Tioga:
Mezzatesta, who made an immediate impact in her first varsity season, hit .412 (28 hits in 68 ABs) with seven doubles, three triples, 15 RBI, 22 runs scored, and one stolen base.

She walked eight times and had a .474 on-base percentage, to go along with a .603 slugging percentage for a 1.077 OPS.

Lecksie Douglas, freshman, Waverly: Very athletic, Douglas hit .300 (12 hits in 40 ABs) with one double, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. She also walked eight times, was hit by two pitches, and had an on-base percentage of .440.

McKenna Jarvis, freshman, Athens: A good all-around athlete, Jarvis hit .291 (16 hits in 55 ABs) with four doubles, two triples, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

Vanessa Tunnicliff, freshman, Tioga:
A good defensive first baseman, Tunnicliff hit .304 (17 hits in 56 ABs) with one double, one home run, 15 RBI, 25 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

She also walked 13 times, was hit by one pitch, and had a .443 on-base percentage.
