VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' BRONSON HEADLINES SUPER 7 AS 'GIRLS ATHLETE OF SPRING' (2024-06-16)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Athens junior Sara Bronson peaked at the right time, and earned her first PIAA medal. She is the Valley Sports Report 2024 "Girls Athlete of the Spring."

Bronson won the 800-meter run at the NTL Championships, and was second in the and 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Bronson earned four medals at the District 4, Class AA Championships. She punched her ticket to States with a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter run, and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run. She narrowly missed States with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run.

At States, Bronson finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run in a school-record time of 5:03.53, and finished 10th in the 3,200 in a time of 11:19.16.

Bronson also ran the Athens 3,200-meter relay team that finished fourth at the PIAA Championships. The relay finished second at the District 4 Championships, clocking in more than 25 1/2 seconds faster than its seed time.

RaeAnne Feeko, sophomore, Tioga softball:
Feeko, a very good defensive shortstop, hit a whopping .608 on the season, including a stretch in which she recorded base hits in 14 consecutive at-bats.

Feeko had 45 hits in 74 at-bats with 11 doubles, four triples, five homes runs, , 37 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. She also walked 15 times and was hit by four pitches for a .688 on-base percentage, to go along with a 1.068 slugging percentage for a 1.756 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Feeko was 6-0 with a 2.45 ERA. She allowed 14 hits in 34 2/3 innings, while striking out 61 and walking 31. Opponents hit .122 against her.

McKenzie Williams, junior, Athens softball:
Williams hit .507 (38 hits in 75 ABs) with 16 doubles, two home runs, 35 RBI, 33 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.

She walked 10 times and was hit by pitches three times to account for a .580 on-base percentage, to go along with an .800 slugging percentage for a 1.380 OPS.

Williams also had a .981 fielding percentage, with just three errors in 160 total chances. She also threw out 16 would-be base-stealers.

Savannah Persun, junior, Athens softball:
Persun posted a 7-8 record with a 2.38 ERA. She allowed 80 hits in 79 1/3 innings, while striking out 102 and walking 26. Opponents hit .249 against her.

At the plate, Persun hit .422 (27 hits in 64 ABs) with six doubles, one home run, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored, and one stolen base. She also walked nine times, was hit by pitches twice, and had a .500 on-base percentage, to go along with a .562 slugging percentage for a 1.062 OPS.

Erin Luther, junior, Tioga softball: Luther hit .465 (33 hits in 71 ABs) with 15 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 32 RBI, 27 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

She walked 13 times, and was hit by pitches twice for a .558 on-base percentage, to go along with an .859 slugging percentage to account for a 1.417 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Luther was 11-3 with a 3.53 ERA. She allowed 66 hits in 89 1/3 innings, while striking out 104 and walking 87. Opponents hit .190 against her.

Gretchan Hiley, freshman, Athens softball: Hiley hit .462 (36 hits in 78 ABs) with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI, 30 runs scored, and five stolen bases.

She also walked five times, was hit by one pitch, and had a .494 on-base percentage, to go along with a .679 slugging percentage for a 1.174 OPS.

In the pitcher’s circle, Hiley was 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA. She allowed 27 hits in 33 1/3 innings, while striking out 53 and walking 22. Opponents hit .205 against her.

Paige Robinson, senior, Waverly flag football:
Robinson piloted the Wolverines to an 8-2-3 record in their inaugural season on the gridiron.

Robinson completed 57.1 percent of her passes (133 out of 233 passes) for 1,429 yards, and 21 TDs, with 10 interceptions. She also rushed the ball for 1,341 yards and 16 TDs on 153 carries.

Robinson have five 100-yard rushing games, including a high game of 272 yards. She rushed for three TDs in a game three times. … Robinson threw for four TDs in one game, and threw three TDs in a game on four different occasions.
