TIOGA CENTER - A first-team Section IV all-star both years she played goal keeper at Tioga, senior Chloe Gillette will continue her field hockey playing days at Utica University in the fall.

Gillette signed her National Letter-of-Intent here recently during a ceremony in the middle school auditorium that featured 13 Tioga seniors signing to play at the next level in four different sports.

“I really enjoyed playing field hockey in high school, and I just fell in love with it when I came to Tioga,” said Gillette.

“Utica has a good (lacrosse) program, and it has a good program in my major,” she added. “I’m looking forward to playing there.”

Second-year Tioga field hockey coach Aubrey Worthing, who moved Gillette to goalie prior to her junior season, has little doubt Gillette, who recorded 516 saves in two seasons, will be successful at the next level.

“Her skills have not gone unnoticed,” said Worthing. “Many teams and referees have commented on her talents.

“She is a highly-skilled goalie with quick reaction time, great communication skills and a natural ability to lead her team,” noted Worthing. “Her contributions both on and off the field have been invaluable and we have truly appreciated her skills, commitment, and positive attitude.

“I know that these qualities will help Chloe be very successful as she furthers her athletic career at Utica,” she added.

Gillette and Worthing both know there is work to be done prior to playing at the next level.

“I need to work on a lot of stuff, especially my stick work, and shifting,” said Gillette.

“I also think the speed of the game is something I’m going to have to focus on,” she added.

“(Chloe) will be playing on turf, which is a transition from the grass fields we played on,” said Worthing.

“It will be an adjustment, but she is a quick learner and I know will pick it up fast,” she noted.

“The next level is also very physical, and I hope that she can stay injury free,” added Worthing.

Gillette will major in Bio-Chemistry with the intent of attending Medical school, and becoming a surgeon.
