Valley Sports Report ATHENS - Athens scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit, and pull out a 3-2 win over Towanda in the final game of pool play in the District 15 Little League Minors Division softball playoffs.
With the win, Athens wins the East pool. Both teams entered pool play at 2-0.
Towanda scored a run in the top of the first, and another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
It could have been 4-0, but Towanda had a runner cut down at the plate in the second inning, and another called out at home due to batter’s interference.
Sadie Wanck and Terrianna Orshal, who belted a double, had the big hits in Athens’ three-run rally in the fourth inning.
Athens ace Molly McGrath pitched around a walk in each of the last two innings to preserve the win.
McGrath tossed a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking five to earn the complete-game win.
Orshal doubled, and Wanck singled and scored a run to account for Athens’ two hits, while Amelia Archibald and Livia Powers each scored one run.
Athens hosts Troy Sunday in the opening round of bracket play.
