YOUTH SOFTBALL (12U): VALLEY ASA PULLS OUT 14-13 WIN OVER CANDOR IN CONSOLATION BRACKET (18 PHOTOS) (2024-06-28)

TIOGA CENTER - Valley ASA let a seven-run lead slip away in the top of the sixth, but rallied in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings, then pulled out a 14-13 in the seventh inning here Friday evening in a consolation bracket contest at the Tioga County 12U Softball Tournament.

Valley ASA scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead, then scored five more in the second to take a 10-2 lead.

Candor closed the gap to 10-5, but Valley ASA scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 12-5.

Candor pushed eight runs across the plate in the top of the sixth inning to take a 13-12 lead, but Morgan Smith scooted home on a passed ball with two outs in the home half of the inning to tie the game.

Hailey Smith walked the first Candor batter in the top of the seventh, but ASA catcher Evelyn Roy threw her out attempting to steal moments later.

ASA hurler Hailey Smith recorded a pair of strikeouts — her 16th and 17th — in the inning to send the game to the bottom of the seventh at 13-13.

Ivy Brown walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and scored the winning run on a passed ball with two outs.

Brown was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, and Roy doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI to pace ASA’s 12-hit attack, while Hailey Smith singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Alayna Lackey singled twice, and scored three runs.

Lexi Thompson singled, scored one run, and had one RBI in the win, while Juliet Roy singled and drove in one run, Audrey Hall singled, and scored one run, Morgan Smith scored a pair of runs, and Mariana Mantz knocked in one run.

Valley ASA will face the winner of the Newark Valley-S-VE game on Monday in the consolation bracket semifinals.
