THE SPORTS REPORTS: OWEGO'S McEVOY HEADLINES SUPER 7 AS 'GIRLS LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR' (2024-06-29)

Owego’s Madison McEvoy was a dominant offensive force, and is The Sports Reports’ 2023-24 “Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.”

McEvoy had 58 goals and 15 assists and caused 67 turnovers. She had 47 ground balls, 40 draws and was a Section IV, Division 2 first-team all-star.

The “Offensive Player of the Year” is Horseheads’ Lexi Lese. The sophomore had 50 goals and 11 assists, and topped 100 career points as a sophomore. She also had 20 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The “Defensive Player of the Year” is Piper Emmick of Corning, who had seven goals, 15 ground balls, 22 draw controls and caused six turnovers. She defended most opponents’ best attackers.

Corning’s Kennedy Driscoll is the “Newcomer of the Year.” She had nine goals, two assists, 16 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and had 19 draw controls as an 8th-grader.

The “Coach of the Year” is Jen Guzylak of Horseheads. She led the Raiders to double-digit wins and a trip to the sectional playoffs.

Lauren Kozemko, Horseheads:
Kozemko had 46 goals and nine assists, to go along with 68 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Gracee Work, Corning: Work had 29 goals, three assists, 16 ground balls, 68 draw controls and caused nine turnovers. She was the top goal-scorer and leader in draw controls for the sectional champions.

Lexi Herceg, Owego:  A junior attacker, Herceg had 38 goals and four assists and led the team with 48 draws. She also had 26 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Shannon Maslin, Owego: A junior goalie, Maslin had 142 saves, and was a Section IV, Division 2 first-team all-star.

Alexis Krohmalney, Horseheads: Krohmalney had 21 goals, four assists, 40 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.

Mia Capilli, Elmira: Capilli had 17 goals and four assists for the Express, with 41 draws and 18 ground balls.

Riley Keeler, Corning: Keeler had two goals and six assists, 15 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and had nine draw controls.
