DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (9-10-11): ATHENS ROLLS PAST T-L, 12-3, TO WIN DISTRICT TITLE (24 PHOTOS) (2024-06-30)

Valley Sports Report
ATHENS - Kaden Netherton’s line-drive, three-run home run keyed a six-run  third-inning rally that propelled Athens to a 12-3 win over Tioga-Lawrenceville, and a District 15 title here Sunday afternoon in 9-10-11 Division baseball action.

Athens, playing as the visiting team, took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second.

T-L was poised to tie the game in the home half of the inning, but a perfect relay throw from left fielder Casyn Rowe to shortstop Colt Shores, to catcher Ethan Glielmi cut down the tying run at the plate to end the inning.

In the third, Athens loaded the bases with one out on walks to Luke Shores and Colt Shores, sandwiched around Glielmi getting hit with a pitch.

Brady Shores started the scoring with a two-run single up the middle to make it 3-0, then Netherton hit the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence to make it 6-0.

Athens tacked on another run and led 7-0 after two innings.

T-L closed the gap to 8-3 after four innings, but Netherton and Kruze Payne rapped RBI triples, sandwiched around an RBI double by Zayne Johnston, during a four-run rally in the top of the fifth that extended the lead to 12-3.

It was Athens' third win over Tioga-Lawrenceville in District play this postseason.

Brady Shores earned the win for Athens, allowing three runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out seven and walking six in 3 1/3 innings.

Colt Shores closed out the game with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless one-hit relief. He fanned six and walked two.

Netherton homered and tripled, scored two runs, and had four RBI, and Payne tripled and singled, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Athens’ seven-hit attack.

Brady Shores singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs in the win, while Johnston doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Sophia Barrett singled and had one RBI, Rowan Morales scored two runs, and Glielmi, Colt Shores, Jacob Keene, and Luke Shores each crossed the plate once.

Athens returns to action when it hosts Sectionals next week.
