DISTRICT 6 LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): WAVERLY RIDES FAST START TO 15-5 WIN OVER CORNING GOLD (24 PHOTOS) (2024-07-01)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY - Waverly jumped out early, and improved to 3-2 in pool play with a 15-5 four-inning win over Corning-Painted Post Gold here Monday evening in District 6 Little League baseball playoff action.
C-PP Gold actually scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but Waverly answered with four runs in the home half of the inning, then scored five more runs in the second to take a 9-1 lead.
C-PP Gold plated three runs in the top of the third inning, but Waverly answered with three to take a 12-4 lead after three innings.
Corning scored a run in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 12-5, but Waverly scored three runs in the home half to invoke the 10-run rule.
Jonah Raney earned the win for Waverly, allowing five runs — four earned — on nine hits, while striking out three and walking two in 3 2/3 innings. Brody Payne retired the only batter he faced to end the game.
Asher Reznicek was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and two RBI, and Logan Naylor was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and one RBI to pace Waverly’s 15-hit attack, while Payne tripled and doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Caster Witman tripled and singled, and had four RBI.
Robert Henderson was 2-for-2 with a run scored in the win, while Beau Bauman singled, and scored three runs, Easton Donovan doubled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, Raney singled, and scored two runs, and Easton Beach and Jackson Mosier each crossed the plate once.
Waverly hosts Corning Black Wednesday evening.
