ATHENS -- Tri-Valley scored two runs in the third inning to break a tie game, but it was a defensive play in the bottom of the inning that turned the tide in a 6-2 win over Athens here Monday evening in the consolation bracket of the Section 3 Little League baseball playoffs.

Athens scored a run in the bottom of the second inning on a one-out triple by Jacob Keene, and an RBI single by Rowan Morales to tie the game at 1-1.

Tri-Valley answered with two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, but Athens responded by loading the bases on walks to Leo Loziere and Sophia Barrett, and Ethan Glielmi getting hit by a pitch.

With two outs, Brady Shores hammered a line-drive into the right-center field gap, but the Tri-Valley center fielder made a leaping grab, snow-coning the catch to end the inning.

Tri-Valley scored two more runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 5-1, and tacked on another run in the top of the fifth to make it 6-1.

Zayne Johnston walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, and later scored on a passed ball to close the gap to 6-2.

Glielmi doubled to lead off the sixth inning, but was later cut down at the plate.

Keene tripled and scored one run, and Morales singled and drove in one run to pace Athens’ five-hit attack, while Johnston singled and scored one run, Glielmi doubled, and Colt Shores added a single.

Colt Shores was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on six hits, while striking out three and walking three in 3 2/3 innings.

Loziere allowed one run on one hit, while striking out four and walking two in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
