PA. LITTLE LEAGUE (JUNIORS): ATHENS DROPS 3-1 DECISION TO HANOVER IN CONSOLATION BRACKET (2024-07-11)

Valley Sports Report
ATHENS — Brady Shores limited Hanover to just three hits, but a costly error led to three unearned runs as Athens dropped a 3-1 decision here Thursday in the consolation bracket of the Pa. Little League Junior Division State baseball tournament.

Athens, playing as the visiting team, took a 1-0 lead right out of the gate on a single to lead off the game by Kade Rowe, and a line-drive, one-out RBI double by Ryan Hicks.

Peter Bertsch followed with a single, but a double play ended the inning with Athens leading 1-0.

Shores limited Hanover to one hit — a lead-off single in the fourth inning — through the first four innings.

In the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly that would have been the third out had it not been for the error tied the game at 1-1, and a two-run single moments later gave Hanover a 3-1 lead.

Rowe singled with two outs in the sixth inning to put runners on first and second, but both runners were stranded.

Hicks, Bertsch, and Nolan Raupers all worked walks in the seventh inning, but a runner caught stealing took the steam out of the rally, and the inning ended with the tying runs on base.

Rowe was 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Hicks doubled and drove in one run, and Bertsch and Raupers each dded a single.

Shores was tagged with the touch-luck loss, allowing three unearned runs on three hits, while striking out three and walking three in six innings.
