YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): VESTAL TOPS WAVERLY, 16-5, IN OPENING ROUND OF OWEGO 10U TOURNAMENT (9 PHOTOS) (2024-07-11)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Vestal scored five runs in the top of the third inning to break open a two-run game on its way to a 16-5 five-inning win over Waverly in the opening round of the Owego 10U Baseball Tournament.
Vestal scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, plated five in the third to take a 7-0 lead, and led 8-1 after four innings.
Vestal scored eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to bring the 10-run rule into play with a 16-1 lead.
Waverly answered in the home half of the fifth with four runs, but could only close the gap to 16-5.
Brody Payne singled twice and drove in one run, and Beau Bauman singled, scored one run, and had two RBI to account for Waverly’s three hits, while Liam Richardson scored two runs, Jackson Mosier crossed the plate once, and Jonah Raney had one RBI.
Logan Naylor had the best turn on the mound for Waverly, allowing two runs in two innings, while walking four and striking out two.
Waverly returns to action Saturday against Johnson City.
