WOLVERINE BIG MEN FINISH FOURTH IN LINEMAN CHALLENGE
Valley Sports Report CORTLAND — After posting an unbeaten 4-0 mark in pool play, Waverly lost to Tioga County rival Owego in the opening round of bracket play in the Small School Division here at the New York State High School Football Coaches Association Football Classic at SUNY Cortland Saturday.
The Wolverines reeled off wins over Cortland Holland-Patent, Avon, and Carthage in pool play to earn the second seed, before falling to the 15th-seeded River Hawks.
Owego advanced to the finals, where it dropped a 28-24 decision to Class D Clymer-Sherman-Panama, which will square off with Waverly in Week Zero at Memorial Stadium.
There were 34 teams in the Small School Division.
Waverly’s “big men” finished fourth in the Lineman Challenge.
