Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Waverly dropped a pair of pitcher’s duels here Sunday at the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.
Waverly opened the day with a 4-1 loss to Maine-Endwell, then dropped a 2-0 decision to Susquehanna Valley.
Maine-Endwell 4, Waverly 1M-E scored a run in the top of the first inning, and three more in the third inning, and made them stand in a 4-1 win.
Waverly had just two hits — a first-inning single by Cooper Skovira, and a fifth-inning single by Triton Floyd — through the first five innings.
In the sixth, Mike Hendershot rapped a one-out double, and scored on a two-out, line-drive RBI single into center field by Brayden Bowman, but a Waverly runner was cut down at the plate on the play to end the game.
Floyd was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs — three earned — on seven hits, while striking out one and walking six in four innings.
Hendershot walked one, and allowed two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.
Hendershot doubled and scored one run, while Bowman singled and had one RBI, and Skovira and Floyd each added a single.
Susquehanna Valley 2, Waverly 0Susquehanna Valley scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull out a 2-0 win over Waverly.
Cooper Skovira limited Susquehanna Valley to four singles through the first five innings, but a lead-off error in the sixth set the stage for a pair of unearned runs.
Skovira fanned 10 and walked two, while allowing six hits in five innings.
Skovira doubled, and Cole Rylott singled to account for Waverly’s only two hits of the game.
Waverly squares off with Vestal Monday at 8 p.m.
