YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): SAYRE RALLY COMES UP SHORT IN 4-3 LOSS TO MAINE-ENDWELL (17 PHOTOS) (2024-07-17)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — Maine-Endwell (Caldwell) held off a late Sayre rally to pull out a 4-3 win here Tuesday night in the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.

M-E broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third inning, but Sayre answered in the home half, tying the game on an RBI single by Lyam Morningstar to plate Paul Potter, who led off the inning with a single.

M-E regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, and added two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, and runners on first and second in the fifth, Sayre finally broke through again in the sixth inning.

With two outs and Emmett Lee on first base via a walk, Alex Rounsville ripped a double, and Brayden Ott cracked a two-RBI single to close the gap to 4-3.

However, the next batter popped out second base to end the game.

Lyam Morningstar singled twice and drove in one run, and Ott singled and drove in two runs to pace Sayre’s nine-hit attack, while Rounsville doubled and scored one run, and Potter singled and scored one run.

Caleb Conden, Colton Matthews-Fuller, and Ryley Morningstar each added a single for Sayre, and Lee scored one run.

Matthews-Fuller started on the mound for Sayre, allowing one unearned run on four hits, while striking out six and walking two in three innings of work.

Trenton Lynch allowed three runs — one earned — on one hit, while striking out three and walking four in two innings of relief, and Potter yielded one hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.
