YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): SAYRE RALLIES PAST WHITNEY POINT IN 17-7 WIN (2024-07-18)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Sayre piled on the runs late in the game to overcome an early deficit on its way to a 17-7 win over Whitney Point here Wednesday in the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.
Whitney Point scored runs in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead, then scored two more in the third to up its lead to 6-3.
The rest of the game was all Sayre as it scored four runs in the home half of the third to take a 7-6 lead, and upped its lead to 12-6 with five runs in the fourth inning.
After Whitney Point scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, Sayre scored five runs in the botton of the inning to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Trenton Lynch had three hits, including a home run and a triple, scored three runs, and had four RBI, and Emmett Lee was 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs scored, and three RBI to pace Sayre’s 12-hit attack.
Caleb Conden singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs in the win, while Lyam Morningstar singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Colton Matthews-Fuller hit a solo home run, and Blake Chapman doubled and scored two runs.
Paul Potter scored two runs, and had one RBI for Sayre, while Alex Rounsville and Ryley Morningstar each scored one run, and Brayden Ott had one RBI.
Chapman had the best turn on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out and walking one in three innings of relief to earn the win.
Sayre takes on U-E Saturday afternoon in the Silver Bracket playoffs.
