YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): SAYRE TOPS VESTAL-GILMORE, 16-11, IN OPENING ROUND OF VESTAL 10U TOURNAMENT (2024-07-20)

VESTAL — Sayre scored in every inning to pull out a 16-11 five-inning win over Vestal (Gilmore) here Friday night in the opening round of the Vestal 10U Tournament.

Vestal, playing as the home team, opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning, but Sayre answered with five in the home half of the inning.

Vestal scored three more runs in the top of the second to take a 6-5 lead, but Sayre answered again, this time with four runs to take a 9-6 lead.

After Sayre held Vestal off the board in the third inning, Sayre scored three runs in the home half to up its lead to 12-6.

Vestal plated four runs in the top of the fourth, but Sayre once again had an answer, scoring four runs to put the lead back at six runs, at 16-10.

Vestal managed a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Sayre closed out the inning for the win.

Brendan Gilson singled twice, scored two runs, and had three RBI, and Razier Vanhousen homered and singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI to lead Sayre’s 12-hit attack, while Colton Nasoni tripled and singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and Connor Kmet singled twice, scored one run, and had two RBI.

Beckett Blythe singled twice and scored two runs in the win, while Lucas Wolcott doubled and drove in two runs, and Landon Snyder added a single.

Jakobi Smith scored two runs, and drove in one run for Sayre, while Xander Parrish scored one run, and knocked in one run, Blakelee Kithcart and Attillio Angellino each scored one run, and Aiden Hughey drove in one run.

Parrish had the best turn on the mound, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out two and walking two in 1 1/3 inning of relief.

Sayre will take on Vestal Gold Monday at 7 p.m.
