YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): SAYRE HOLDS OFF U-E, 15-11; ADVANCES TO SILVER BRACKET CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT OWEGO 12U TOURNAMENT (2024-07-21)

OWEGO — Sayre built a 12-run lead, then held of Union-Endicott (Mihalko) for a 15-11 win here Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of Silver Bracket play in the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.

Sayre scored two runs in the top of the first inning, then added a run in the top of the second inning to make it 3-0.

After plating 10 runs in the third to extend its advantage to 13-1, U-E closed the gap to 13-5 after five innings.

Sayre tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 15-5, U-E scored six runs in the home half of the inning to provide the final margin.

Colton Matthews-Fuller was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBI, and Trenton Lynch had three hits, including a home run and a triple, two runs scored, and four RBI to pace Sayre’s 16-hit barrage, while Lyam Morningstar doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Caleb Conden singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.

Blake Chapman doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Kaleb Lindemann singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, Ryley Morningstar and Brayden Ott each singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Emmett Lee singled and scored one run, and Alex Rounsville scored one run, and drove in one run.

Conden fanned 11 in 5 1/3 innings for Sayre to earn the win.

Sayre will face Vestal (Hillis) at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Silver Bracket championship game.
