BOYS BASKETBALL: CORNING WINS WAVERLY SUMMER LEAGUE TITLE; WAVERLY REACHES SEMIS, ATHENS AND SAYRE FALL IN QUARTERFINALS (24 PHOTOS) (July 25, 2024)
Valley Sports Report ATHENS — Corning captured the season-ending tournament title of the Waverly Boys Summer Basketball League here Wednesday night with a five-point win over Elmira, while Waverly reached the semifinals, and Athens and Sayre both fell in the quarterfinals.
Corning opened the with a 67-42 win over Athens in the quarterfinal, then beat Waverly, 54-43, in the semis, before finishing off its title run with a 52-47 win over Elmira.
Waverly advanced to the semifinals with a 57-51 win over Notre Dame in the quarterfinals.
Sayre dropped a 41-35 decision to Candor in the quarterfinals.
