YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): SAYRE ROLLS VESTAL-KOCHIS, 14-3, TO IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN POOL PLAY AT VESTAL 10U TOURNEY (2024-07-27)

VESTAL — Vestal-Kochis scored the first two runs of the game, but Sayre answered in a decisive manner on its way to a 14-3 win here Friday at the Vestal 10U Tournament.

With the win, Sayre improves to 2-0 in pool play.

Vestal, playing as the visiting team, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Sayre responded with two runs in the home half of the inning on a wild pitch, and a game-tying RBI groundout off the bat of Connor Kmetz.

Sayre took control in the second inning, scoring six runs after there were two outs to take an 8-2 lead.

After a run scored on a wild pitch, Beckett Blythe, Colton Nasoni, and Razier Vanhousen delivered consecutive RBI singles to make it 6-2, then Brendan Gilson smacked a two-run double to cap the rally.

Sayre added six more runs in the third inning with Lucas Wolcott plating a run with an RBI single, and Beckett knocking one in with a ground out. Two of Sayre’s runs scored on wild pitches, and two more scored on bases-loaded walks.

Vestal plated a run in the top of the fourth, but Sayre stopped the rally there to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Wolcott earned the win, striking out two, while allowing one hit and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Blythe added an inning of scoreless relief, striking out three and walking two.

Nasoni singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run to pace Sayre’s nine-hit attack, while Blythe singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Gilson doubled and had two RBI.

Wolcott singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Vanhousen singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Andrew Howey, Atillio Angellino, and Xander Parrish each singled and scored one run.

Aiden Hughey scored two runs and drove in one run for Sayre, while Kyle Ball scored one run and knocked in one run, Kmetz added an RBI, and Landon Snyder and Blakelee Kithcart each crossed the plate once.

Sayre returns to action this afternoon against U-E.
