BOYS BASKETBALL: ELMIRA WINS WAVERLY SUMMER LEAGUE JV TITLE; WAVERLY REACHES SEMIS, ATHENS FALLS IN QUARTERFINALS (2024-07-27)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Elmira knocked off top-seeded Troy in the finals of the Waverly JV Boys Summer League season-ending tournament, while Waverly reached the semifinals, and Athens fell in the quarterfinals.
Troy opened the tournament with a 49-19 win over eighth-seeded Athens, then knocked off fifth-seeded Waverly, 52-42, in the semifinals.
Second-seeded Elmira, which beat Notre Dame and Watkins Glen to advance to the finals, edged Troy, 34-30, to win the title.
Waverly advanced to the semis with a 31-27 win over fourth-seeded Corning.
