YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): SAYRE RALLIES FROM EARLY DEFICIT FOR 22-7 WIN OVER U-E; WRAPS UP POOL PLAY AT 3-0 IN VESTAL 10U TOURNAMENT (2024-07-28)
Valley Sports ReportVESTAL — For the second day in a row, Sayre fell behind early, but stormed back for a big win, this time wrapping up pool play with a 22-7 win over Union-Endicott here Saturday afternoon in the Vestal 10U Baseball Tournament.
Top-seeded Sayre, 3-0 in pool play, will return to action Sunday in the semifinals of bracket play in a rematch against fourth-seeded U-E.
U-E pushed five runs across the plate in the top of the first and led 5-3 heading into the bottom of the second, when Sayre took the lead for good with eight runs.
The second inning rally included an RBI single by Razier Vanhousen to give Sayre a 7-5 lead, a two-RBI double by Jakobi Smith to make it 10-5, and an RBI single by Andrew Howey to cap the rally at 11-5.
U-E closed the gap to 11-7 with two runs in the top of the third inning, but Sayre closed out the game via the 15-run rule with 11 runs in the home half of the inning.
The Sayre rally was highlighted by two-run doubles from Colton Nasoni and Xander Parrish, and two-RBI triples by Vanhousen and Atillio Agnellino, who scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
Vanhousen tripled and singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI, and Smith doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs to pace Sayre’s 12-hit attack, while Ball singled twice, and scored two runs, and Nasoni doubled, scored three runs, and had three RBI.
Angellino tripled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Parrish doubled, scored one run, and drove in two runs for Sayre, while Howey singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Lucas Wolcott and Beckett Blythe each singled and scored two runs.
Brendan Gilson scored three runs, and had one RBI in the win, while Blakelee Kithcart scored a pair of runs, and Landon Snyder crossed the plate once.
Gilson earned the win, striking out five and allowing five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Parrish allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out one in one-third inning of scoreless relief.
