YOUTH SOFTBALL (12U): VALLEY ASA REACHES QUARETRFINALS OF CORNING CINDERELLA 12U TOURNEY (2024-07-30)
Valley Sports ReportCORNING — Valley ASA lost its first two games, but bounced back with consecutive wins to reach the quarterfinals of the recent Corning Cinderella 12U Tournament.
POOL PLAY
Maine-Endwell 15, Valley ASA 0Maine-Endwell scored five runs in each of its three at-bats in a 15-0 three-inning win over Valley ASA in the opening game of pool play.
Evelyn Roy singled for Valley ASA’s only hit of the game.
Bath 11, Valley ASA 2Bath built an 11-0 lead on its way to an 11-2 three-inning win over Valley ASA in the second game of pool play.
Valley ASA avoided a shutout with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Abby Folkers singled and drove in one run to pace ASA’s three-hit attack, while Mylee Medina, and Alayna Lackey each added a single, and Evelyn Roy, and Ashlynn Trivelpiece each scored one run.
Valley ASA 13, Horseheads 1Valley ASA closed out pool play at 1-2 with a 13-1 win over Horseheads.
Hailey Smith earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out six and walking two in 3 1/3 innings.
Abby Folkers allowed one hit in two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.
Evelyn Roy was 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs scored, and two RBI, and Lexi Thompson doubled and singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI to pace ASA’s seven-hit attack.
Hailey Smith tripled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Audrey Hall singled, scored two runs, and had one RBI, Ashlynn Trivelpiece scored two runs, Juliet Roy scored one run and drove in one run, Mylee Medina and Sorana Marica each scored one run, and Alayna Lackey had one RBI.
BRACKET PLAY
Opening round
Valley ASA 7, Bradford 0Hailey Smith threw five strong innings to lead Valley ASA to a 7-0 win in the opening round of bracket play.
Smith allowed one run on five hits, while striking out four and walking two in a complete-game effort.
Lexi Thompson singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, while Audrey Hall, Juliet Roy, and Alayna Lackey each singled and scored one run in ASA’s six-hit attack.
Evelyn Roy and Abby Folkers each singled in the win, while Smith had an RBI, and Mylee Medina and Sorana Marica each crossed the plate once.
Quarterfinals
Potter / Tioga Outlaws 3, Valley ASA 1Valley ASA tied the game with a run in the top of the third, but the Outlaws answered in the home half, and tacked on an insurance run late in the game to pull out a 3-1 win in the quarterfinals of bracket play.
Smith was tagged with a tough-luck loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on seven hits, while striking out six and walking two.
Evelyn Roy singled twice and drove in one run, while Audrey Hall singled and scored one run, and Lexi Thompson added a single to account for ASA’s offense.
