AUTO RACING: 7-YEAR-OLD WAVERLY YOUTH WINS FIRST-EVER A-MAIN FEATURE (2 PHOTOS) (2024-08-21)
Valley Sports ReportSALISBURY, N.C. — Seven-year-old Leevi Sharpsteen of Waverly won his first-ever Race Cadet A-Main feature here Saturday night at Millbridge Speedway.
Following the time trials, Sharpsteen was second out of 22 cars.
After winning the second heat, Sharpsteen started the feature on the outside pole.
On lap 2, Sharpsteen passed the leader on the outside and went on to dominate the race, taking the checkered flag for his first-ever A-main win.
“We’d like to give a special thanks to his crew chief Anthony Jilson,” said Leevi’s father Lee Sharpsteen.
Jilson, who is a 2006 Waverly graduate, is employed by the NASCAR race team “Track House.” He also owns and operates “Jilson Juice Driver Development,” where he strives to help kids reach their next level with race craft coaching.
